Resumen

A systematic review was conducted on heavy metal contamination in crabs of the genus
Ucides, following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, with the aim of evaluating existing information and
identifying gaps to guide future research. A bibliographic search across five databases yielded 389
records. After removing duplicates and applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, 19 documents were
selected, complemented by 8 additional studies obtained through artificial intelligence assistants, resul-
ting in a corpus of 27 studies. Scientific production was analyzed by species, country, geographic zones,
and research topics. The results reveal a concentration of studies in Brazil and Ecuador, with a predo-
minance of Ucides cordatus over U. occidentalis. High levels of contamination were reported in these
crabs. Relevant thematic gaps were identified in both Ucides species, highlighting the need to direct
future research toward integrative approaches in ecotoxicology, public health, and the conservation of
mangrove ecosystems.
